Football is for everyone
Dawleys are delighted to sponsor Hereford FC Walking Football. There are two teams, an over 50s and an over 60s who train once a week at Hereford 6th form college and also belong to the Gloucester league.
They take part in national cup competitions and play in the odd tournament here and there. Their oldest member is 74 and youngest is 42. Here are the over 60’s team playing at Gloucester.
Benefits of Walking Football
It’s the perfect game for people in later life and it’s played on small pitches with small goals and games are normally 6-a-side. It can be played indoors on artificial grass pitches or outside on natural grass. As in 5-a-side the ball must not go overhead height and all free kicks are indirect.
The threat of pain, discomfort and injury is reduced due to the combination of a slower pace and reduced contact. This allows people who have loved the sport all their lives to once again safely get back to playing. It also introduces the sport to people who perhaps have never considered playing before.
Walking football is an excellent way of staying fit and healthy. Studies have shown it can be effective in the treatment of mild to moderate hypertension. It can produce high aerobic activity with marked improvements in fat oxidation and aerobic power. There are also substantial mental health benefits.
